Mercerwood Shore Club — Member Vision Plan
Our Opportunity
The beach has always been the heart of MSC — a place where summers unfold and memories are made. But parts of the Shore Club beach, especially key facilities like restrooms, are reaching the end of their useful life.
As we plan for those updates, we have a choice: make incremental fixes or take a step back and consider a more cohesive, long-term vision for the space. Beachfront 2030 is our opportunity to reimagine the shoreline for the next generation: balancing what we love today with what’s possible tomorrow. Your input will help guide what comes next.
Year-Round Hub
Imagine a place where you can take in lake views by the fire on a crisp winter evening, watch the Christmas Ships without the mud, or reserve a warm, welcoming space to gather with friends. Lakeshore Lodge is envisioned as a flexible indoor-outdoor hub that makes the beach usable year-round—not just in summer. With comfortable seating, food and beverage access, and refreshed restrooms, it would extend how and when members use the shoreline. It’s not just a building—it’s a new way to experience the beach, in every season.
Family Heart of the Beach
Zone 1 is the heart of the beach for families with young kids and this plan focuses on making it easier, safer, and more enjoyable to spend time there. A new play structure, paired with leveled ground and a shifted layout, opens up more usable space for both play and connection. Added picnic tables and built-in seating create natural spots to gather, while a potential overlook improves visibility to the beach. A refreshed multi-sport court adds even more activity options, making this zone a true hub for the young and young at heart.
Gathering & Celebration
Zone 2 is the gathering place at the center of beach life—where people come together to eat, relax, and linger. Today, it’s a pretty steep slope; in the future, it becomes a series of welcoming terraces that 2x our picnic space to make it easier to spread out, settle in, and stay awhile. Three new BBQ areas, supported by prep and sink space in the Lodge, create a true hub for shared meals and celebrations. Closest to the water, 4 built-in firepit nooks offer space for groups to soak up summer nights by the lake.
On the Water
Zone 3 is all about making it easier and more enjoyable to get out on the water. Expanded storage would more than double capacity for kayaks and paddleboards. A new barefoot-friendly surface replaces the current gravel, while steps into the water and a smoother launch area make getting in and out far more seamless. Just as importantly, this area would be cleaned up and thoughtfully organized—transforming what’s now a bit ramshackle into a functional, attractive part of the beach.
Teen & Evening Destination
Zone 4 transforms an underused, sandy volleyball court into a space teens will actually want to hang out in. By replacing the current surface with turf and adding soft lighting, this area becomes more inviting, comfortable, and usable into the evening. The goal is to create a flexible upland zone designed with teens in mind—a place to gather, move, and connect just a bit removed from the younger-kid energy down at the beach. It’s a simple shift that turns a forgotten corner into a destination.
